The Punjab government has launched a new network of public schools named Nawaz Sharif Centers of Eminence, offering free education to eligible students across the province.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif reviewed the progress of the initiative during a high-level meeting as the government moves to expand access to quality education.
Who Can Get Free Education?
Under the initiative, students whose parents earn less than Rs. 200,000 per month will be eligible for free education.
Qualifying families will not have to pay school fees, making the new schools an option for students who may otherwise struggle to afford high-quality education.
Over 71,000 Students Apply for Admission
Officials informed the chief minister that more than 71,000 students have applied for admission to the new schools.
The applications have been received for 65 Nawaz Sharif Centers of Eminence across Punjab.
The high number of applications indicates significant public interest in the education initiative.
Schools to Follow International Standards
According to officials, the Punjab government is developing the schools in line with international education standards.
The campuses will include:
- Modern classrooms
- Advanced science laboratories
- Dedicated STEM facilities
- Digital learning tools
- Innovative learning spaces
- Sports facilities
The facilities aim to support academic learning alongside students’ physical and personal development.
Focus on STEM and Digital Learning
The Centers of Eminence will place a strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.
Students will also receive access to digital learning resources and modern educational tools designed to improve classroom engagement and practical learning.
