Punjab’s Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) have introduced a new marking policy for the Intermediate Part-II Practical Examinations 2026, replacing centre-based evaluation of written practical papers with a centralized board-level checking system.
The revised policy will be implemented from the 2026 practical examination session.
New Practical Exam Policy
Under the updated system, practical examiners will no longer assess the written answer sheets at examination centres.
Instead, the written portion of practical papers will be sent to the respective education boards, where it will be evaluated through a centralized marking process, similar to the system already used for theory examinations.
The move is intended to promote greater consistency and transparency in the assessment process.
Practical Performance Still Assessed at Examination Centres
While the written component will now be checked centrally, students will continue to be evaluated at their practical examination centres for:
- Practical laboratory performance
- Practical notebook
- Viva voce (oral examination)
Candidates are therefore expected to prepare thoroughly for every component of the practical examination.
Subjects Covered
The revised marking policy will apply to the following Intermediate Part-II practical subjects:
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Computer Science
- Statistics
According to the announced schedule, BISE Lahore will begin Intermediate Part-II Practical Examinations on July 10, 2026.
Revised Marks Distribution
The boards have also announced the new distribution of marks between practical performance and the written answer sheet.
| Subject | Performance, Notebook & Viva | Written Answer Sheet | Total Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics | 16 | 14 | 30 |
| Chemistry | 14 | 16 | 30 |
| Biology | 13 | 17 | 30 |
| Computer Science | 26 | 24 | 50 |
| Statistics | 20 | 10 | 30 |
What Students Should Expect
Students appearing in the practical examinations should be prepared for all assessment components, including:
- Performing laboratory experiments accurately.
- Maintaining a complete and properly prepared practical notebook.
- Answering viva questions confidently.
- Completing the written practical paper carefully, as it will now be evaluated independently by board examiners.
