Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat to teach one class at a school every week as part of efforts to strengthen the province’s education sector.
The direction was issued during a special meeting held to review ongoing education reforms and new initiatives across Punjab.
Education Minister to Teach Weekly Class
Under the chief minister’s direction, Rana Sikandar Hayat will personally teach a class at a school every week.
The initiative comes as the Punjab government continues to review school performance and implement reforms aimed at improving the public education system.
Digital Registration of Private Schools Reviewed
During the meeting, the chief minister reviewed the digital registration system for private schools.
Officials discussed measures to improve the registration and monitoring of educational institutions across the province.
Punjab Plans Registration of Tuition Centres
Maryam Nawaz also sought proposals for introducing a formal registration system for tuition centres.
Authorities were directed to develop a mechanism for the digital mapping of tuition centres across Punjab.
The proposed system could help the government maintain a centralized record of tuition centres and strengthen oversight.
Punjab School Reforms Programme Discussed
Officials presented a detailed briefing on the school education sector and the Punjab School Reforms Programme (PSRP).
The meeting also discussed possible new revenue sources for the education sector to support ongoing reforms and initiatives.
Punjab Achieves 4.3 Million Student Enrolment Target
The chief minister was informed that Punjab had achieved its target of enrolling 4.3 million students in government schools within two years and four months.
Officials also claimed that the province had recorded its highest level of genuine enrolment in public schools in recent years.
Digital Salary Payments Mandatory for PEF Teachers
The meeting also made digital salary payments mandatory for teachers working under the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF).
Under the initiative, bank accounts will be opened for approximately 138,000 PEF teachers.
The move aims to digitize teacher salary payments and improve the payment system for educators working in PEF-supported schools.
