Summer learning camps have started in public and private schools across Punjab after the provincial government allowed limited academic activities during summer vacations. However, complaints have emerged that some private schools are not fully following the guidelines issued by the School Education Department (SED).
According to parents and students, certain schools are allegedly making attendance mandatory despite official instructions stating that participation in summer camps should be voluntary and based on parental consent.
Complaints Over Mandatory Attendance
Parents have expressed concern that some educational institutions are pressuring students to attend summer camps even though the government has clearly stated that participation is optional.
They argue that compulsory attendance defeats the purpose of voluntary learning activities during the vacation period and places unnecessary pressure on students.
Schools Accused of Ignoring Timings
Concerns have also been raised regarding reports that some schools are:
- Conducting regular classes
- Holding examinations
- Operating beyond approved hours
Under SED guidelines, summer camp activities are only allowed between:
🕖 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM
to protect students from extreme temperatures.
Official Summer Camp Guidelines
According to the School Education Department, schools organizing summer camps must:
- Ensure participation remains voluntary
- Obtain parental consent
- Conduct activities indoors
- Provide clean drinking water
- Maintain proper ventilation
- Arrange first aid facilities
Students attending summer camps have also been exempted from wearing school uniforms.
Parents Seek Action Against Violations
Parents and education stakeholders have urged the Punjab School Education Department to investigate complaints and take action against institutions found violating the notified rules.
They have called for stricter monitoring to ensure schools follow the approved framework and prioritize student welfare during the summer vacation period.
Summer Camps Continue Across Punjab
The summer learning camp initiative was introduced to help students remain academically engaged during the holidays while improving literacy and numeracy skills. Authorities have directed schools to follow all safety and operational guidelines throughout the program.
